Carol Burnett has LONG been one of our favorites ... a talented performer as a comedian (both vocal and physical), singer, and dramatic actress. She did it all on her long running variety series, and that's where she earned the majority of her fans.
While this tribute had some entertaining and heart-warming moments, sadly many segments of it just laid eggs. It seemed many of the presenters had only a cursory connection to Carol Burnett's life and career, and unfortunately I suppose that's to be expected since, at 90, she's simply outlived most of her contemporaries.
Still, we'd have loved to see more retrospective of Carol's own performances and fewer show tunes by people we don't know and who frankly weren't at all entertaining. At times Carol herself seemed a bit baffled by the offerings, and really only moved by the attendees that meant something real in her career ... notably Julia Andrews and Vicki Lawrence.
The best part of this special were the interview segments with Carol herself and clips from The Carol Burnett Show, and they did pick some of the best remembered moments, like Tim Conway's Siamese Twin Elephant bit. :-)
