John Candy: I Like Me

Great documentary film, I miss him very much. He joined the eternal Comedy Club too early. I miss him very much. Watched all his movies, and loved every single one. I stand every year in front of Xmass tree and just stare at it, and when in a really good mood I hum about coffee and cabbage rolls. I miss him very much.

People talk about remembering where they were when they heard about JFK or John Lennon or Elvis. I was born in the '80s so don't have those memories but I remember where I was when John Candy died.

I grew up in a video shop and had his movies on public repeat because he was so relatable and appeared to be the best adult that any kid would bother hanging out with - because he listened. Such a huge theme of how he was as a person.

This documentary is phenomenal. Colin Hanks has showcased all the right people in a relaxed setting so they can share their stories. It's a stunning cast of those in awe of Candy as a talent and his family remembering how much he loved them, which is both sad and beautiful. Then there is how John looked after relatives and tried to make everyone he met so happy because he made so much time for them.

John Candy made people laugh, smile and taught them how to be better people through his art. You can't ask for more than that. He really was one of a kind.

I have just watched this very well made documentary about a man I thought I knew, I knew he was a kind and generous loving family man, a proud Canadian, a hero to some a comedy genius to others but it turns out he was so much more than that. Watch it, if you liked John Candy you will feel the same way I did, if you didn't know of him watch it anyway it and you will love him for what he was........a giant loveable comedy legend whose light will never go out and a genuinely loveable gentle man. I like him.

Through some fascinating and deeply-insightful input from those who loved, admired, and worked closely with the genius who was John Candy, this memorandum of his life is very impressive and yet horribly depressing. John's contributions to our planet are hard to even describe, but if you want to feel the loses through the memories of those who got to spend time with him you can't ask for more than the interviews this film offers. Many of them bring much of who he really was into the light for us to see. And frankly much of it makes a lot of us "fans" look rightfully bad. I double-dog dare you not to tear up or outright bawl your eyes out during many scenes. I certainly fell in love and felt his pains. I felt a burning need to say "thank you" one last time, too.

The world lost a lot of sunshine the day John left us, and this documentary reminds that our so-called "celebrities" are people just like us, and that treating them as anything but is a shameful way to live. I very much recommend watching this, whether you understood or appreciated John Candy or not. You'll walk away with your heartstrings tugged. He was a good human.

I felt compelled to write something, because of the warmth of this wonderful human being. Listening to the stories of his peers and how loved he was.

I was a 14 year old boy when John died, I felt it as a real shock, and perhaps my first introduction to loss and grief. Now at 46 with 2 young children of my own I feel it even more. He was just so relatable, the everyman.... The Uncle... like Buck.

I can't speak highly enough of how this documentary has been put together. It's all there apart from Brewsters Millions, which is a shame, as It would have been very interesting to find out about his relationship with Richard Pryor.

The world has been worse off since John Candy"s passing, he was one in a billion.
