This comes from the D-Generation comedy team, and they seem to be the only decent creative comedy producers in Australia.
An experienced host, Tom Gleisner, with good timing teams up well with the 5 comedy contestants. 2 of the comedy contestants are regulars. Sam Pang plays the role of the bitter comedian well and plays well with Tom, the host. Ed Cavalee is another who works well, but lately he appears to just be phoning it in. The other 3 contestants are a forever rotating selection of Australian comedians. The producers do a great job of rotating and selecting a vast selection of comedians. Some are new and upcoming, some are regular television personalities, while others are 30+ years experienced in tv, radio and stand up comedy.
Mixed together, they work well insulting each other, the host and the guests in a friendly jocular way while also making jokes at the week's recent events. What makes the show work is that some jokes don't work and the others will pick up the dead air and make a pun to quickly move on from the unfunny.
It's basically like sitting around chatting humourously about the week's events with a gameshow thrown into there. The gameshow is just a by-product as Ed always wins and Sam never does.... expect once.
