Edith's parents were Harvey McAlpin and Laura McAlpin (nee Steal). Both were from Scotland.
Edith married Joseph Benrimo(1838-1909) and they had 5 children, 1 daughter and 4 sons. Their children were:

- Barrow C. Benrimo (1873/?76-1905),
- Donah Benrimo(1880-?between 1957 & 1970); [wife of Dr. Benjamin R. Matthews and then Major General Walter Lawrence Reed]
- Harvey Samuel Benrimo (1885 - circa May 1909)
- Thomas Duncan Benrimo (1888-1958).
