As of 2005 he and fellow Navan man Dylan Moran are the only So You Think You're Funny winners to go on to win The Perrier award during its entire 25 year run at the Edinburgh Fringe festival. As of 2006 they will be the only ones to do so under the name of the Perrier. It underwent several name changes due to changes of sponsor.
I've noticed there's an obedience with a theatre crowd. It's a formal event, practically. [But on hotel gigs] people feel more confident and they're more boisterous. There's just better energy in them. You're there to make them laugh. You can talk about whatever you want, as long as it's funny. It's more of a marketplace kind of standup. More like standing on a few fruit crates and trying to get the attention of passersby in downtown Marrakesh. I prefer that.
