Worked his way through college as a track laborer for the Duluth Missabi & Iron Range railway (DM&IR), as well as driving canal boats in the Toronto, Ontario harbor at Ontario Place. In addition he spent nearly 20 years as a senior investment manager with the asset management group of Smith Barney.
His daughter Taylor is a well known amateur golfer who is attending university in Miami, playing for the highly ranked Barry University's Women's team.
He met his wife of over twenty years while reporting a story for WBNS TV in Columbus, Ohio. He asked her out on the air and married her six months later.
