In 2003, Steven was caught in the crossfire of a gang shooting at a nightclub called Loft Six in Vancouver Canada. He was shot in his lower spine and suffered a severe spinal chord injury. At the time he was a professional Dancer and Choreographer. He was told by doctors he would most likely never walk or dance again. He not only beat those odds but went on to star in a Off-Broadway Musical called "Groovaloo/Freestyle" where he acted and danced again. To date, he is walking without the assistance of a wheelchair or cane. Although this injury has left him with a slight limp, he still maintains the strong belief that his mobility will return 100 percent.
