There's no shortage of streaming horror to watch on TV in this day and age and between the It and Terrifier films, killer clown flicks have become a subgenre unto itself. Sorting through the cacophony of fright titles in order to find quality entertainment can be a task unto itself. Enter Last Laugh.
Directed by Chris Marciante (All You Can Eatz) and starring Maxim alum Jackie Adragna (Terrifier 2), Last Laugh delivers on both laughs and scares, with a brisk runtime that never overstays its welcome. Snappy and devoid of fat, Last Laugh operates as something of an anthology film that functions as an effective hybrid of Pulp Fiction, Creepshow and the like.
Following the untimely death of her mother, Andrea (Adragna) vows revenge on the suspender clad clown responsible. Intertwined with her story is that of a disgruntled detective contending with marital infidelity, a Wall Street tycoon who lost all his wealth and a bearded drug addict suffering from hallucinations of the aforementioned clown creep (the latter of which being among the film's major highlights).
Good performances all around. Good score, good script. Never boring. Never steps into the various technical pitfalls that beguile most micro-budgeted indie films. Last Laugh will thankfully not be the last venture for the cast and crew involved.
