Dirty Work

A lot of stock has been going missing at the jewelry store managed by Cecil Parker. The loyal but none-too-bright staff is baffled. However, considering this is basically an Aldwych Farce, written by Ben Travers, directed by Tom Wall, and starring Ralph Lynn as the brightest of the bunch, that's hardly a surprise.

He's also in love with Lilian Bond, and she with him. Nonetheless, they quarrel a lot because Parker keeps trying to make love to the young lady. Robertson Hare, Gordon Harker, and Gordon James complete the farcical center, and Walls directs them in fast delivery of their lines, although Harker proceeds at his wonted pace. Meanwhile, the crooks see a way to use these dopes to speed up their thefts by convincing them they're actually the police.

I didn't find it the best of work by the team, but it certainly does have its moments, and the sequence in which Lynn and Harker convince Hare to wear a wig and shave his mustache is very well done.
