In trying to find a bullet in an ornate wooden mantelpiece, the police use a mine detector. The operator moves along past a large clock without an indication, but then it whines indicating something metal and a small .22 bullet is dug out of the woodwork. To find such a small bullet the detector must have been set to a high setting, yet missed all the metalwork in the clock.
