His Wicked Wicket Ways

When Alfred Hickey wins a duel at Croquet by underhanded means, he opens himself to blackmail by the aged Riley Chamberlin. Fortunately, Riley's grandmother is of a sterner morality.

Lloyd Lonergan's scenario pokes some mild fun at the foibles of the wealthy and the trivialities that caused explosions in Keystone farces. Everything seems to be a trope out of farce. Chamberlin's cheating Clarence uses makeup and dresses like a W.S. Gilbert take on Oscar Wilde. The silliness of the entire exercise may not appeal to the modern audience, but was undoubtedly a pleasant little farce a hundred years ago.
