Light Work I

I was amazed that someone gave this film a score of 10. While I can appreciate that perhaps this film is less a film and more a like a piece of performance art, watching it was truly an endurance competition--even though it's only eight minutes long. During the entirety of the film, horrible music plays that really gets under your skin. It isn't exactly music--more like the throbbing of electronics or machinery. This sound accompanies grotesquely disfigured images of machinery--images that are stained intense and unappealing colors, pieced together in an non-aesthetically pleasing fashion and that flash and twist. This goes on and on the entire film. I'll give the film a point for trying to do something different, though it looks like something designed to make prisoners crazy or betray their comrades. Overall, a very unpleasant experience and I am worried that there will be more films like this since you can infer from the title that more are planned. Let's hope they try a different medium or style.
