Can't believe no one else has commented on this. I was one of the first people to see this film along with another couple of hundred or so. Saw it at the Dublin Gay film festival which I thought was an odd place to premiere a film like this, I know there is a gay storyline in it but it seemed out of place with all the other usual boy meets boy stuff. So we have an Irish horror film, it's listed as a thriller on here but in my experience of horror I would rate it as a horror film.
So it's set a in the very near future and what was interesting from the get go was how they didn't go for the usual dystopian like future with everything all burning and futuristic, you are landed in a small insular town where if anything you feel like you have gone back in time. At times I felt like I was watching a character drama and it gave it a more realistic feel. It is a bit slow to start but the acting keeps you interested, especially NoraJane No one who plays the lead, she has an intensity about her and she is very very watch-able. Her girlfriend is played by Laura Donnelly who again is very watch-able, I liked how she played her part, I felt like there was a lot going on under the surface. The cast where great overall, stand outs where the girl playing Jenna and Jon Kenny was scary as Mr Harvey.
Some of the scenes where very shocking, in particular the scene where one of the characters is trapped under a floor and p***ed on. Same character goes through some serious torture scenes too. There was some walk outs during these scenes. I felt like the film was not finished though, there was some distracting bad sound & at one point I thought the music would pierce my eardrums, I hope it was not intentional. I stayed for the Q & A and there were some people attacking the film which I thought was to be expected because they were not a traditional horror audience. Overall I really enjoyed the film, there was a lot of energy on screen and I felt like I was seeing something different which excited me a lot (Irish horror films have never been much to get excited about sadly). I'm giving it a 7 cos it was not finished but I hope to catch it again at a horror fest.
