With 2020 being a year that saw no less than three different "Monster Hunters" movies in different variation and language, then it was a bit of a gamble to sit down to watch one instead of the other.
But I eventually got around to watching the 2020 Chinese movie titled "Monster Hunters". But not before a year after it was initially released. Not that I had been putting it off because of the other movies with the same or nearly same titles, mind you. I just never got around to sitting down to watch "Monster Hunters".
And that was a mistake on my behalf, because director Yilin Dai definitely managed to direct a pretty entertaining and fast-paced action movie here. The movie would be more correctly titled "Demon Hunters", as it was effectively demons that the movie was dealing with and not monsters as per se.
Visually then Yilin Dai's "Monster Hunters" was pretty good. There were some nicely rendered CGI demonic creatures and they looked realistic, which definitely helped added to the overall feel of the movie. And the designs of the demonic creatures were quite interesting and nice.
"Monster Hunters" also has a pretty good ensemble of casted actors and actresses, with some very good performances by the lead actor and actress.
This was definitely an enjoyable movie, and one that you should take the time to sit down and watch, especially if you enjoy Chinese movies.
I was more than genuinely entertained by this movie, and it was an enjoyable story that quickly got me submerged into it. The only downside to this movie, really, aside from its title, was the fact that the movie felt way too short. It was as if the movie had just started when it came to an end. Not that the movie was lacking anything in the entertainment department because of it, but it just felt like a movie that went by way too quickly.
I am rating "Monster Hunters" a solid six out of ten stars.
