Mayflies live for only one day

The Mexican film Efímera (2021) was shown in the US with the translated title Mayfly. The movie was written and directed by Luis Mariano García.

Danae Reynaud portrays Emilia. When Emilia looks at dying people, she can see them glow. (This sounds bizarre, but within the scope of the movie it works.)

Emilia meets a young woman her age, who has a significant illness. For whatever reason, this woman doesn't glow. How do you tell someone that you know she won't die soon because you can tell when people are dying?

I found this movie effective and fascinating. It doesn't have enough IMDb ratings to be meaningful. I rated it 8.

We watched this film as part of Rochester's wonderful ImageOut LGBTQ Film Festival.

P. S. Yes--the word efímera is from the same source as the English word ephemeral. Mayflies are a biological example of the word because they only live for one day.
