- AnecdotesOperation Mincemeat was a massive gamble by British naval intelligence, even long after it was known the German spy network had fallen for it. A high ranking Nazi officer, thought to be Heinrich Himmler, supposedly told Adolf Hitler he had a feeling it was a deception, but his concerns were dismissed.
- GaffesThe main characters refer to "Bletchley Park" several times. In fact, during the war, Bletchley Park was known as "Station X" to hide what it was, where it was, and what work was done there. Its work was so highly classified even those within Station X knew little of what their work colleagues were engaged in. Montagu and Cholmondeley would never have known what happened there.

Ewen Montagu: But the real tribute tonight goes to Iris, my brilliant wife, who in the morning sails to less troubled shores with our nestlings in tow. Iris is wiser than Solomon, stronger than Samson, and more patient than Job. But she has to be. She's married to me.

Commentaire à la une
The Man Who Never Was, the old 1956 movie was much better in terms of focus of the story. Operation Mincemeat played up a silly romantic relationship between Montagu and Leslie played by Colin Firth and Kelly MacDonald. This was probably not true and feels contrived. The beginning is confusing because lots of mutterings with Colin Firth's mumbling hard to understand. Also Matthew McFayden's character's fuss about the dead body felt added on and trivial amidst the war.
The 50s movie had a scary Irish Nazi spy played by Stephen Boyd. That was very exciting.
Worth a watch for those interested in WW2 spy stories.
