I watched Ghaznavi at RR Movies, Ghaziabad on the 5th of Mar, primarily to honour a friend who has played a tiny little role in the movie. My expectations were low given the limited to almost nil media coverage the movie had received anywhere. On reaching the venue they rock bottomed further when I found not even a single poster of the movie outside the hall! God knows how exactly were people to know about such a small budget movie of nobodies in the industry?
Anyway, after a small wait the audience was allowed in to the hall & the screening began on time. The intro sequence of the movie was quite engaging. This was followed up by something of an edge of the seat thriller. The director seems like a Slasher movie fan & has liberally taken from the hammer-horror sequences and fitted them into this very thrilling story-line without going over board with the blood & gore!
In terms of the the acting, the lead actor is good, while the team of villains do an ok job keeping the movie together. Some of the other characters though seem a little half baked & could have been developed better. The story line keeps the audience hooked on pretty much all through save for the very ending. It's only the last 10 minutes of the movie that seemed to be a rushed job with some juvenile action sequences & cliched dialogues. The director should have avoided the temptation to get the lead characters to verbally re-state their plans which was all too obvious to the audiences by then.
That aside, I think this was a decent first attempt (~7.5 on a 10) at a feature film by rank beginners. Certainly worth a watch, perhaps on an OTT platform sometime now that it's off the cinemas! Cheers..
