What an absolute surprise.
The ratings are quite low and I was wondering if it was because it was another light fluffy cdrama with the same trope of cliches we are used to. Oh boy, was I wrong.
China produces cdramas at a high speed and because there are so many, not all of them are worth watching.
But lately they are making loads of changes and you can tell in the quality, specially in the characters. They are slowly getting rid of those stereotypical annoying useless/baby voiced female characters, they are writing quality scripts and creating witty, smart, strong female characters and I am all for it.
This is drama has a very simple story with a plot we have seen before and yes it is sweet and fluffy.
So what's the difference? The difference is in the characters, specially the female lead. This drama has one of the best character development story I have watched, and the personalities written for them are absolutely realistic.
Our female lead behaves like a real woman, her personality is strong and determined, she takes the initiative to express her feelings and her desires, acting on them too. It was very refreshing to watch ( and very sexy)
The chemistry between the leads is extremely high in this one. I can't stress enough how wild every gaze and every conversation and every touch between them was. I don't remember ever a cdrama where the female lead had so much freedom within her own skin and relationship. It was very attractive to watch.
The secondary stories were very engaging too, great non cliche subplots and again very well written realistic characters.
Overall was amazing and I 100% recommend it. If I don't give it a 10 is because I believe this should have been shorter, it got a bit dragging for a few episodes after the episode 18 but then recovered at the end.
