Commentaire à la une
This belated entry in a series initiated by Jacky St. James in 2021 is a slight rom-com by Mike Quasar that suffers from chintziness and way too many gimmicks.
Quasarman's script and camera/editing gimmickry seem designed to pretend there's a feature's worth of content here when in fact he's pared down the 2-hours to all sex plus nonsense. The disjointed story line is told in snippets with the entire cast talking to the camera to tell us what's happening, and occasionally looking at the camera as if this was a stage show with an audience. Worst shtick is when co-star Anna Claire Clouds literally grabs at the camera in exasperation and walks off -and is written out of the script!
These vignette-styled story structures usually involve a cast of 8 (or more), namely four scenes involving four couples, but here we have just six players, with artificial relationships stipulated. Confusing story has central couple Haley Reed and Codey Steele as rom-com bickering lovers, and she's cheated on him with both his dad (a character who does not appear) and later Robby Apples/Echo's dad Derrick Pierce) (who does, and has sex on screen with Haley, who seems taller than him but isn't).
Other contrivances include Anna Claire Clouds as Codey's new boyfriend, whose mom Rachael Cavalli has (we are told) slept with Codey, leading to Rachael ending up seducing Robby as well. And for some reason, Robby, Codey, Anna and Haley are all living together. Quasar hogs nearly all the creative credits, so he has to answer for this mish-mash.
The cast puts across the sex scenes and I have to conclude, unfortunately, that even for a once-great label like Sweet Sinner, that's all that was desired here.
