Founded and led the Chicago-based theatre company, Actors of America, which under his direction frequently produced James Baldwin's play, "Blues for Mr. Charlie," with Jones always playing Rev. Meredith. In the summer of 1968 he commenced casting the latest production of the play before abruptly leaving Chicago for sunnier climes.
Currently (2005) writes and directs African-American themed plays, such
as "Girl, I Knew He Was a Dog When He Barked in His Sleep" and "Queen
of the Blues" (a tribute to Dinah Washington) in the Los Angeles area.
Several of his plays have had successful runs at the Stella Adler
Theater in Hollywood and feature up-and-coming African-American actors.
