Sushmita Sen stated "I am definitely going to play Rani Laxmibai The film is titled "Jhansi Ki Rani". We will produce the movie. We are conducting research on it at the moment. I pray that all those who want to make Rani Laxmibai should finish making it so I can start my version. I don't want to make it in haste. Dr Chandraprakash Diwedi is just doing the research. He is not directing it.". Sushmita Sen was to direct the film. The movie ended up being shelved.
