Stratford Festival (Canada): His many roles included Gremio in "The Taming of the Shrew"; Colonel Pickering in "My Fair Lady"; Quince in "A Midsummer Night's Dream"; Alonso in "The Tempest"; the Old Shepherd and Archidamus in "The Winter's Tale"; Crabtree in "The School for Scandal"; Polonius in "Hamlet" and "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead".
He studied for the theater and had his first stage role at the age of
eight. During WWII, he performed for thousands of Allied soldiers on
the London stage in a five-year run of the "Sweet and Low" revues. He
joined the Stratford Festival (Ontario, Canada) in 1970, and spent 22
seasons on its stages.
