As a journalist for the "Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine", she wrote a profile of Orson Welles entitled "Energy Machine", published in the magazine on Christmas Eve, 1939. Several years later, having become a screenwriter, she collaborated on the story for "The Stranger", the 1946 movie directed by and starring Orson Welles.
