The vibrant, soulful 'Emilia Pérez' features dazzling song-and-dance numbers by stars Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez, but the drama is grounded in Karla Sofía Gascón's performance as the titular character, a former Cartel kingpin called Manitas del Monte who changes her life and becomes a humanitarian after having gender-affirming surgery. Gascón tells IMDb about the two years of preparation that went into this demanding role in Jacques Audiard's film and about the two extremes of her own personality that she had to play as Emilia and Manitas.
