On summer break from Queen's University a made for TV movie, Salem Witch Trials (2002) was being filmed near his parents' home. Tyler submitted himself to the Background casting director and was cast. Two weeks into the exteriors shoot, he was asked by the producers of the film to be the personal assistant to Peter Ustinov. He has stated that his time with Ustinov was one of the most incredible learning experiences of his life.
