Cynic In The Sunshine

Randy Newman is a cynic. He's bitter. He's angry. And he wrote a song about LA that became a hit thanks to Nike using it in a commercial during the Olympics. It's a catchy song. Silly, goofy, with a little social commentary thrown it, etc.

The video is okay, nothing special really. I'm sure they didn't want to spend too much money on it. It shows Randy, the songwriter and singer of the song, driving around Los Angeles and singing about how great it is. I lived in LA for 10 years and it's definitely a mixed bag. In addition to sunshine and beaches it also has lots of racial anger, lots of poverty, lots of homelessness, lots of gang warfare, lots of crime, and lots of greed. But I guess you have to take the bad with the good.

I always wonder who the woman is in this video. She's cute.
