This 12 part series looks at instances throughout wrestling history when things have gotten real! What I mean by that are generally times when the scripted bout has gotten serious and two or more men have fought for real in front of the capacity crowd.
I'm a big wrestling fan, I love the industry as it fascinates me on many levels. I'm blown away by the athleticism, how dangerous the job is, the stresses and strains on the body, the politics, the demanding work schedule and everything else that comes with it. The last thing these guys and girls need is further drama!
Across the 12 volumes it most looks at independent wrestling, after all not many workers are going to shoot in a high end promotion and risk losing their job now are they?
It features incidents involving Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Kevin Owens, Kassius Ohno/Chris Hero, New Jack (A lot), Antonio Inoki, John "Earthquake" Tenta, Hulk Hogan, Randy "Macho Man" Savage and countless more.
Many of the incidents don't make for easy viewing especially those in hardcore companies/bouts. Beatings, stabbings, barbed wire pain and plain savagery are on display as well as interviews with those involved.
It makes for fascinating viewing but the transitions are shoddy, the opening is amateurish and some of the skits including Family Guy and Mortal Kombat inserts are just terrible.
I'd say this is very enjoyable viewing if you can get past the shoddiness, especially for those who enjoy a peek behind the curtain of sports entertainment.
The Good:
Great footage
Some enjoyable interviews
The Bad:
Amateurishly constructed
Some stuff isn't easy viewing, very niche
