The adventures of the Three Musketeers in the spirit of Italian slapstick comedy - that's what this film by Bruno CORBUCCI offers. The action is also set in the Wild West and garnished with kung fu fighters and a German circus troupe. Wonderfully silly fights that are in no way close to the great examples of SPENCER/HILL. But the harmless purr is still fun. Unfortunately, the German version is very shortened, making certain connections difficult to understand. Peter BERLING co-wrote the script, with Karin SCHUBERT (QUESTA VOLTA TI FACCIO RICCO, 1974) and George EASTMAN (RABID DOGS by Mario BAVA) playing important roles.
The main role is played by Giancarlo PRETE (1943-2001), who was born in Rome. After his first appearances as a cascader (previously he was active as a wrestler in the Greco-Roman style), PRETE was increasingly used in supporting and then leading roles. By the way, he had another funny beating role alongside Brad HARRIS in ANTONIO E PLACIDO (1975). He appeared in numerous CINECITTA productions until 1990, after which he switched to dubbing work. He died much too early of a brain tumor, before his 60th birthday. On February 5, 2023, Giancarlo PRETE would have been 80 years old (source: English and Italian WIKIPEDIA).
