I first heard of this Public Service Announcement film spot when a couple of pics were shown in "Moe Howard and the Three Stooges", Moe's autobiography that was published after his passing in 1975. Like the last few feature films they made, this was produced and directed by Norman Maurer-Moe's son-in-law. Carl Reiner appears in the beginning to tout the benefits of buying U.S. Bonds which segues into Howard Morris being convinced by producer Milton Berle to sell to various other people on the studio lot to buy. First there's Carol Burnett as a secretary who aggressively embraces Morris, then The Three Stooges-Moe, Larry, and Curly Joe-sign in during their lunch break, then John Banner and Werner Klemperer accept the conditions, then an African-American actor I didn't recognize and Tim Conway take their turns signing, and then Harry Morgan-rehearsing his role in a cop show-and Jack Webb-in charge of the red light signal meaning production is on-appear though only Webb is conversing with Howard. Finally, Berle is signing in speeded up dialogue between him and Morris. That takes us back to Reiner who again points out the importance of what this spot is for. The Stooges segment is the most amusing of this short perhaps due to the comfort of being filmed by someone familiar to them. Anyway, Star Spangled Salesman is worth a look for any Stooges completists out there.
