I was actually one of the rare cult movie fanatics who DIDN'T think "Thriller: A Grim Picture" was a fantastic 70's European exploitation highlight, so I honestly have no idea why I even bothered to track down Bo Arne Vibenius' other and far less notorious film. Oh well, at least "Breaking Point" isn't as pretentious and wannabe controversial as "Thriller" and just openly admits what it really is: a pornographic thriller that doesn't put too much effort into the script and/or building up tension, but does guarantee a whole lot of extended sex footage with ravishing young maidens. The plot, so to speak, revolves on office clerk Bob Bellings who's – surprise surprise – a dangerous and mentally unbalanced pervert rapist/killer after working hours. Whenever Bob isn't in his dungeon playing with his miniature trains or target practicing with his homemade explosive bullets, he stalks young girls or picks up female hitch-hikers. Even though Bob isn't exactly the exemplary archetype of male handsomeness, all the girls willingly strip their clothes off and enthusiastically blow on his trumpet. But all this messing around doesn't give Bob enough satisfaction, so he turns to raping and killing instead. There are a couple of sequences in "Breaking Point" that literally balance on the edge of tastelessness (ejaculating in a cup of coffee) and ethical incorrectness (when Bob spots a VERY young girl) but, all things into perspective, it's honestly just a harmless whack-off flick that isn't going to offend anyone. Heck, the only prudish people who might get offended by this sort of porno-horror aren't likely to know about this film's existence, anyway. I have to admit the end-twist, although very brief and gone in the blink of an eye, is quite perplexing and probably even more shocking than the whole of "Thriller: A Grim Picture".
