Sukanya is the Village development officer .she does everything except work on the development of the village. she gets wet , sings duets , prances around in glittery clothes , cries , romances Karthik ...
Karthik is the son of the village zamindar .His maternal uncle totally controls him and has occupied the ancestral property with his sons . Karthik's sister is married to her cousin ( the maternal uncle's son ) and is ill treated by them .
Karthik is the village bumpkin always up-to pranks with other kids . Sukanya comes to the village and a few pranks later both fall for each other .
Sukanya tries to redeem him but he does not change as he is scared of his uncle who whips him at every small mistake .
Gandimati is Karthik's foster mother who is very affectionate and helpful.
The lawyer ( Karthik has to get married within 30 days else the property will go to the government . Karthik tells his uncle that he wishes to marry Sukanya . The uncle and his henchmen come to kill Gandhi mati and humiliate Sukanya in public . In the end Karthik saves her and finally comes of age .
Sukanya has a very traditional look on her face . Karthik has a unique dialogue delivery to show his imbecile status . He was on top during-early 90s . He is deeply missed by family audience today . Gandhimati is a pleasure to watch as a loud caring mother to Karthik. She never cries or attracts sympathy for a change from the usual mothers of Tamil movies.
