The concept of the story and the synopsis for the movie definitely sounded interesting, and thus I opted to check out this 2023 Swedish movie titled "Fungi".
First and foremost I should say that the version of the movie that I watched was dubbed in English. What manner of stupidity was that? Whomever figured that it would be a good idea to dub the movie into English? It was such a pointless thing to do, and it took away so much from the enjoyment of the movie, especially since the dubbing was rather monotonous and everyone essentially sounded the same, more or less. Yeah, I loathe dubbing work in movies, as you might be able to tell.
The storyline in the movie was okay, but I think having four writers working on it sort of diluted the narrative a bit. The movie felt somewhat sluggish and disjointed. So writers Sofia Brattwall, Björn Engström, Lottie Johansson and Ove Valeskog didn't really impress me with the script that they churned out for the movie.
While I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, as I am not watching a whole lot of Swedish movies or TV, I will say that the acting performances were fair. But the performances were dumbed down by the dubbing. I know that was not the fault of the actors or actresses, but the dubbing really didn't work out in their favor.
The effects in the movie are okay. It is not a movie that makes use of a whole lot of special effects though, but the effects in the movie were adequate.
"Fungi" was a watchable movie, albeit a rather forgettable one. And I will never return to watch the movie a second time.
My rating of directors Sofia Brattwall, Björn Engström, Lottie Johansson and Ove Valeskog's 2023 movie "Fungi" lands on a four out of ten stars.
