I was initially drawn into picking up the 2023 thriller "Cold Road" from the movie's cover. And the fact that it was a movie that I had never seen before definitely also helped to make me want to watch it.
However, I have to say that the concept of the story, with one or more persons being harassed by someone in a truck, is something that has been done countless times before, so it wasn't as if writer and director Kelvin Redvers was reinventing the genre here. But there was something that worked about the narrative, especially because it was made in a way where you could almost feel Tracy's desperation and frustration with the situation. And leading actress Roseanne Supernault really took the narrative and made it work, made it hers.
I was not familiar with leading actress Roseanne Supernault, but she was really well-cast for the role and she carried the movie quite nicely with her talent and on-screen presence. Actually I wasn't familiar with anyone on the cast list, and that is something I do enjoy when I sit down and watch a movie with unfamiliar faces and talents, and thus not associating the actors and actresses with previously portrayed popular roles.
Despite the fact of "Cold Road" coming off as just another highway harassment movie, it actually is well-worth checking out. I was genuinely and pleasantly entertained throughout the course of the 100 minutes that the movie ran for.
My rating of writer and director Kelvin Redvers's 2023 thriller "Cold Road" lands on a well-deserved six out of ten stars.

As a huge fan of Roseanne Supernault, I really wanted to like this movie. Unfortunately, a terrible script made this movie impossible to like. As someone who grew up in the north, like Supernault's character, I found it difficult to believe she would need to stop and map out her trip on a drive back to her home town to see her ailing mother. That was early in the show and the far-fetched scenarios just got worse as the movie progressed - and it was just one unlikely scenario after another. The tension between Supernault's character and her sister seemed unnecessary and added nothing to the story.
I believe the trucker was simply trying to do a service and benefit to society by eliminating this Darwin candidate from the gene pool.
The woman was so unbelievably dumb and unlikable too. She gets angry because an 18 wheeler doesn't screech to an immediate halt while going 70 mph because her equally stupid dog decided to sit in the middle of the road! Trucks like that can't stop as quickly as a car and he did the right thing by swerving and continuing on.
Later at the gas station she makes a complete fool of herself by shouting obscenities and waving two middle fingers at him in a parking lot when she spots his truck.
I was hoping that he'd decapitate her right there and then go for her stupid little dog afterwards.
I can see why the husband she called had nothing to say to her lol. He was probably glad she was gone and I bet the mother she was coming to visit on her deathbed was praying for Jesus to take her before this stupid daughter of hers got there. Even her sister seemed to hate her.
The only reason I continued watching was in the hopes that the trucker would do to her what he did to the previous idiot in the upside down red car at the beginning of the movie.
And she walks like she's high on meds or something and always has an expressionless face as if there's absolutely nothing going on in her brain.
In movies like this you should be rooting for the victim's survival, but here I was rooting for the trucker to remove this idiot from the gene pool before she passed on her idiot genes. 2/10. Watch this for the laughs.

Storyline is different, but the whole semi vs driver is literally duel in the snow. The acting isn't terrible, but she had so many opportunities to deal with the trucker and didn't. Just disappointed about the fact that it could have been an og story but they copied duel and frankensteined the story.

Others have covered various logic mistakes, but I immediately found it odd that she stares perfectly straight ahead while driving, and shows few facial reaction changes to the stress she's placed under by the villain.
On a real road, unless you're on tranquilizers or drunk, your eyes will shift around to various degrees, not fully locked on the central horizon like hers. She stares like someone sitting on a beach watching a distant ship. Driving in snow makes her attitude even less plausible, since you must constantly watch for icy patches.
I skimmed about half of the movie due to that factor. At least two major scenes borrowed so heavily from "Duel" that it further added to the lackluster effort by both the actress and director.
I'd almost say that the most interesting part was the extremely pretty woman at the coffee drive-thru!
