Friday the 13th Part 3: The Memoriam Documentary (2017)
*** (out of 4)
Paul Kratka (who played Rick in the film) hosts this documentary that takes a look at a few aspects of FRIDAY THE 13TH PART III. This documentary, which isn't nearly in the same league as CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES, focuses on RIchard Brooker who played Jason in the film as well as the 2006 fire that burned down the cabin that was used in the picture.
Look, I'm a major fan of the F13 series so I will watch anything on it. On that level, this was an entertaining documentary that clocked in around 37-mintues and for the most part it did a good job at talking about certain aspects of the film that wasn't fully covered in CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES. With that said, this film certainly shows its "fan mindset" in regards to a few things that I'll talk about in a bit.
For the most part fans should enjoy this documentary as it features a lot of the cast members telling some great stories about the production including how the hockey mask came to be as well as more personal stories about Brooker who died in 2013. It's in these moments that the documentary really comes to life because we get to learn about the man and what he was like when the cameras weren't rolling. There are a lot of very good stories told during this segment.
The second portion of the film takes a look at the 2006 fire that burned down the cabin in the film. If you've been on various message boards then you probably already know the story but if not then here it is. I think the film crosses the line a bit or at least shows its fanboy midnset when they treat the fire as if a real human had died. The incredibly over-dramatic tone was a bit.... too much fanboy?
Another problem with this aspect of the documentary is that there's a fantasy sequence where Jason kills the four people responsible for the fire. Really guys? This here just comes across as something rather tacky and fantasizing about Jason killing these four people is a tad bit much and it's also a bit creepy.
With all of that being said, enjoy the film for the interviews and stories.
