"I Spit on Your Grave III: Vengeance Is Mine" (2015) continues the story of Jennifer, the protagonist from the first installment. The film begins with Jennifer still tormented by the brutal sexual assault she endured years ago. She has changed identities and cities, reluctantly joining a support group where she begins to piece together a new life. However, when her newfound friend's murderer goes free and the tales of serial rapists haunt her, Jennifer will hunt down the men responsible and exact revenge in the most horrific ways imaginable.
The film is a right mind-boggling experience, merging elements of revenge films such as "Death Wish," "Angel," and "Se7en." Jennifer's flashbacks and the scenes of her exacting revenge are confusing, leaving the viewer unsure of what is real and imaginary. For gore-hounds, this is a must-see, with two scenes that left me wincing and at least one that literally made me go "oh my lord."
Despite the graphic nature of the film, it does not depict any physical female assault on screen. Instead, it portrays all males as weak, predatory, or completely insane. This aspect can be grating at times, but it does not detract from the film's overall goal of being as violent as possible.
If you are a fan of the original and its sequel, this film is enjoyable. However, don't expect anything subtle or nuanced. It is best watched on your own, as it may not be suitable for a shared viewing experience.
Overall, I rate "I Spit on Your Grave III: Vengeance Is Mine" a 6/10. It succeeds in its goal of being violent, but lacks the subtlety and depth of its predecessors.
