Any major online gamer with an interest in dinosaurs or other prehistoric animals should at least give this a try.
Your character will start off on an island with only one goal: survival. You'll need to be patient to fully experience this game, because you'll be spending a lot of time harvesting resources to build weapons and structures, and as increase your level. You can wield all kinds of weapons, from primitive bows and spears to modern firearms as you advance.
There are almost 200 different species present in the game, like dinosaurs, mammals, birds, fish and others. They all possess their own unique abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. You can hunt them for food and resources or tame and use them for combat, labor, or to travel across the map via land, air, and sea.
The sheer variety of animals and equipment gives you access to so many amazing combinations. Want to strap a saddle onto a brontosaurus and go on a warpath through an icy tundra shooting anything that moves with an automatic rifle? Knock yourself out!
The graphics and visuals are all good, especially the vast and fully detailed environments of the island. There's plenty of biomes to explore like grasslands, jungles, mountains, deserts, you name it. With DLCs included, there are 9 additional maps for you to experience if you want to expand your adventure and encounter more mythical creatures, such as dragons.
Performance and gameplay are much smoother and more enjoyable on multiplayer as you cooperate and battle with other players online. The game is easier if you can join a decent tribe. Playing alone is too frustrating, as it leaves you vulnerable to being attacked or having your shelter destroyed and your belongings looted. The creature AI also leaves a fair amount to be desired as they frequently get stuck on the terrain or in thick vegetation.
Despite the flaws, I greatly enjoyed this game and it's still fun today.
