Wag the Dog/Home Alone 3/For Richer or Poorer/Deconstructing Harry/Scream 2

Gene Siskel - Host: [reviewing "Home Alone 3"] If this movie had a theme song, it would be "Dumbbells Keep Falling On My Head". The story makes no sense. I feel for every family that's gonna be suckered into seeing "Home Alone 3".

Roger Ebert - Host: Now this is gonna astound you, but I'm giving the movie thumbs up.

Gene Siskel - Host: It DOES astound me. Are you okay?

Roger Ebert - Host: Uh, better than YOU were the day that you liked "Starship Troopers".

Gene Siskel - Host: Okay, oh no, that was exciting.

Roger Ebert - Host: I'll tell you why I liked the movie: This movie empowers little kids, this is the one where they finally got it right. I liked it better than the other two.

Gene Siskel - Host: Than the ORIGINAL "Home Alone"?

Roger Ebert - Host: It makes- little kids love the idea that they can somehow affect the outcome, that they can have, uh, power over grown-ups.

Gene Siskel - Host: That's in number one!

Roger Ebert - Host: That they can defend themselves, be smart and think about things.

Gene Siskel - Host: He hammers thugs in the first one!

Roger Ebert - Host: It's not as violent as the second one. The kid is charming, he really is a good little actor. And the plot is smarter than the other ones.

Gene Siskel - Host: We completely disagree, I thought the kid was generic "mop top", and I thought that the...

Roger Ebert - Host: Oh come on, THAT kid? COME ON!

Gene Siskel - Host: Yes, there's only two, Culkin's better. And the other thing is, it's the same plot as the first one, only more bumps to the head.

Roger Ebert - Host: They're ALL the same plot.

Gene Siskel - Host: But you just said that this one empowers them more than the other ones, absolutely not true!

Roger Ebert - Host: That's the secret of the- that's- that's why kids love these movies, because they love the fantasy that they have power.

Gene Siskel - Host: But it's overdone! Overkill here!

Roger Ebert - Host: Not for me.

Gene Siskel - Host: Not for YOU.
