Hell & Heaven
Director: Raihan Rafi
Featuring: Siam Ahmed and Puja Cherry Roy
Writer and Director Raihan Rafi and Produced by Abdul Aziz, brings us Hell & Heaven. He brings us this beautifully filmed Bollywood spectacular to the screen. The grand scale of this movie reminded me of the way movies used to be made in the glory days of Hollywood. We're you Would get elaborate, really thought out scripts.
This is a love story about 2 young kids (Sujan and Pori) in a small Bangladeshi village. Where tradition still stands true and are followed out till this day.
A suicide is done by women with a broken heart and she is deprived of a proper funeral and burial. Suicide is looked down upon and your soul goes to hell. Sujan our of respect and kindness is the only one with the grieving father to attend his daughters burial. He will always remember that and how a broken heart had turned this girl to a terrible end and how she was shunned by the townspeople!
Everything is fine and him and Pori live there lives as best as they can. Sujan lives with his brother, hates schools and wants to be a action movie star and poor. Pori is rich and not really allowed to be with Sujan.
One day they go to the local swimming hole and he convinces her to let loose and have fun. They play and have fun splashing around in the water. Pori loses her expensive necklace and can't find. He tells her to go home before she gets in trouble and he will find the necklace.
When returning home it is immediately noticed the lost necklace and she is punished, but tells her parents it was stolen by a thief. After a while Sujan finds it and races to bring it to her.
Fearful of her father she is forced to see her friend accused of being a thief and beaten with a chain for suspicion of steeling the necklace.
10 years pass and Pori loves grows for Sujan, whose hate grows for her! He has since made a theatre and acts out his hero adventures in skits. Elaborate musical skits really delight and amuse as you watch.
Sujan and his 2 friends delight the villagers and pack them as they delight to his shows. Pori never gives up and continues to try to win the love of Sujan who continues to reject her. He finally gives in but tricks her as a revenge and to show her his acting skills. Feeling hurt she has had it and swears it's over and she will never love him.
Feeling sorry he turns over a new leaf and swears to win her love back no matter what it takes. Even if it means giving up his move to be a movie star and work as a laborer and make an honest living.
He works hard and saves all his money so he can marry Pori. Her family has different plans and wants her to marry what they feel is better for her. An arranged royal marriage.
This does not sit well with them. After all these years of going back and forth and proving there love to each other they decide to elope.
Things get bad and lives will be changed forever. There fate is in there hands you will be amazed and shocked on how things unfold.
Wow this movie is amazing. I have not been truly moved emotionally by a movie for a long time. I was watching something unfold in front of me that was visually stunning and beautifully shot. The beautiful landscape and crisp colors of the beautiful costumes were breathtaking.
The musical numbers, yes musical numbers were choreographed and acted out as delightful as an actor led Roger and Hammerstein musical. The dancing and singing was so much fun. This movie came in at over 2 hours but not once did I look at my watch. I wanted more. I was drawn in with the story and tradition of the characters, I not only watched a good movie but was educated about a different life style.
The actors all need to be recognized and for a pretty new Director I am so interested in seeing what's next, I will follow and track his career.
Powerhouse movie maker Abdul Aziz knows good projects and this has to be one of his best. His amazing talent is always recognized in any project he is part of!
I hope this movie gets the audience it deserves. Don't be fooled that it's a foreign movie, this is a human interest story that can be anywhere. It's a story of love and how when it's so deep nothing could deter even when tragedy may be the outcome.
