Excellent upbeat, uplifting song by Michael McDonald "No Lookin' Back" gets a rather unusual imagery yet filled with reflections for the viewer to find with
its characters running away from something but apparently going nowhere. All we need to know is informed by McDonald's voice and lyrics about not wanting to
hold on for something, no returning for something cos now there's no lookin' back; and also by the woman who appears in the beginning describing a situation
that seems to relate she left her man behind, leaving things prepared to him and the way she sounds and appears in the video it gives the impression that
she was running away from a failed relationship and ready to start a new life without giving a look back.
McDonald and his inseparable keyboard appear from time to time, song performance as usual in many videos, intercut with images of a running kid, a running guy and
other characters in various situations, and they all to be indecisive, frightened or in a state of constant rush to escape from their dire past whatever bad
it was or just chasing their possible great dreams. It's one of those things it happens in life, when you feel the need to change and literally or figuratively
to leave everything and everyone behind in order to turn your life around. The song gives this sensation as well, though not in a corny or dramatic way; it's
upbeat, fast and positive, very vibrant and filled with enthusiastic energy that makes you look for a bright future ahead. Speaking of escape, it was greatly
used in the classic "Thelma & Louise", it should be used as a main song for the film but it's played in one particular memorable sequence and it suits perfectly
well.
The video is slightly dated, not much impressive for its era but as it goes for many projects like that out there it's worth seeing because it is well made,
it conveys nice ideas, greatly filmed and what's most important is that it truly sells the song, one of McDonald's highest moments during his early solo career. 8/10
