I figured that this "after show" would get better as the season progressed, but instead it seemed to find its stride as something completely alien to me (no pun intended... I think). The cast and crew don't really seem to resonate Star Trek to me when they're answering questions and talking about decisions. The exact moment when they lost me was when one of the show's story writers made a comment like "it's like that one episode of Friends when Ross did blah blah blah" and everyone just nodded their heads! I'm sure that there are plenty of Friends fans who are also into Star Trek, but to believe that the majority would understand your reference is absurd! Matt Mira occasionally makes a funny comment, but he mucks it all up with his constant cheer-leading of everything the stars do. I realize that he is employed by CBS and has definite things that he can and can't talk about, but the whole thing seems TOO rehearsed, and way too antiseptic.
Now, the problem is that the rest of the show is actually really great! The behind-the-scenes, the candid interviews, special effects stuff and trivia; all of it awesome. But then I have to sit through 20-25 minutes of the non-funny back-and-forth Q&A with tight-lipped cast and crew to get to the interesting bits. Stop pretending like you can ask them "what's going to happen?" questions and that it's funny when they give you vague and mysterious answers!
Anyway, I really hope that they revamp this show for the next season, because I really can't deal with the current format and still keep my tenuous grasp on sanity.
