Divos!

A comedy about a bunch of LGBT characters performing a school musical... This type of thing could easily become a cliche, but this movie goes exactly where you're not expecting! There's no angsty gay romance, no melodramatic coming out story, and no musical numbers! This movie treats LGBT characters as if they deserve to be more than just devices for plots centering on oppression and identity. And it's not just some sassy version of High School Musical or (insert teen musical with a basic story disguised behind flashy musical numbers). It's actually incredibly inventive that a movie about a musical isn't even a musical at all. I guess I've focused a lot on what this movie is not. But what is it? Hilarious! Like side-splittingly funny! And it's touching. You will laugh and cry and then laugh again. It's fresh. It's diverse. It's pure fun with a lot of heart. It's also very low budget, which only adds to the charm. This movie has the makings of a cult classic. I really, really hope to see more from this creative team.
