MARJAAVAAN REVIEW :-
Those 80s and 90s films which had a lot of action and mass elements are still our favourites but as the time passed filmmaking style and audience's taste changed. Director Milap Zaveri who is obsessed and inspired by those kind of films have tried to bring those 90s mass mania into his films several times. He debuted with Satyamev Jayate which was heavily inspired by those 90s action films and wasn't much liked by critics but audience made it commercially successful film. He came up with the same fashion in Marjaavaan again but this time he went down and almost lost everything. Marjaavaan could have been a Blockbuster watch 20 years ago but in Today's time this might lack acceptance.
Film has typical storyline where you meet the main character of the film Raghu (Siddharth Malhotra) who falls in love with a Kashmiri Girl Zoya (Tara Sutaria). Raghu was an orphan child and a local goon named Appa (Nassir) brought him up whose dwarf son Vishnu (Riteish Deshmukh) always feel jealous because Raghu is more close to his father than him. There is one more interesting character called Aarzoo played by Rakul Preet who is a Bar dancer and she is crazy for Raghu. After some incidents Vishnu and Appa forces Raghu to kill Zoya. Now why did Raghu kill Zoya? How did he take his revenge? Find out all the answers in the film.
Sidharth Malhotra Raghu got lot of action to do but nothing much as an actor. Ritesh Deshmukh as 3 feet villain Vishnu got less action but more powerful dialogues than Raghu. Siddharth and Riteish were seen together in Ek Villain earlier and both of them failed to match that chemistry in Marjaavaan. Tara Sutaria looks beautiful as hell, if there is any award for looking beautiful in the film then just give it to Tara sutaria. Rakul Preet's role was told to an extended cameo but it doesn't seem like that, she has similar kind of and important role compared to Tara Sutaria. Rest of the cast includes Shad Randhawa, Ravi Kishan, Uday Nene, Varinder Singh Ghuman in minimal roles.
Music of the film is top notch, perhaps one of the best music album of the year. 'Tum Hi Aana' is magical and reviberate in your ears even after coming back home. 'Pyar Do' is pacy, catchy and Nora Fatehi looks super hot in the song while other songs are average. Screenplay is one of the weakest point of Marjaavaan because it lacks the link between two scenes, it lacks logic, it lacks engagement too. Action scenes are presented in old style hence you feel it predictable and irritating. Dialogues are massy but again same retro touch make them look dull. Director Milap Zaveri gives Marjaavaan total 80s treatment which is unacceptable in 2019. Satyamev Jayate at least had today's story, relatable theme and character but Marjavaan doesn't have any of them.
Overall, Marjaavaan is outdated mass mania or should i say mess mania? Because except music, each and every thing is messed up in the film. A good cast is spoiled by faltered screenplay and disaster direction. If someone asks me- What is the height of crap filmmaking? Then my answer would be Marjaavaan. Easily one of the best film of the year. If you can tolerate 80s cinema in 2019 then Marjaavaan is your stuff, you can head towards theatre otherwise prefer any of your favourite 80s film on Mobile or TV.
RATING- 3/10*
