Recensione in evidenza
An instant classic from pornochanchada that really makes people laugh with some obvious jokes, oversimplified story and less dangerously exploitative as many
flicks from the genre. Here, the shy country Lírio (Nuno Leal Maia) gets the chance to break out to the big city and fall on the beds of many beautiful
and excited women when they discover that he's ridiculously well-endowed.
The joke has to go with the city of Itu, a known municipality where all local objects are made in a big manner with giant phone booths, gigantic objects that are supposed to be small, so you get the idea of what's so interesting inside his pants. But the situations get more and more hysterical when the early virgin and clumsy man becomes super addicted to knowing women better and going ahead with their persecutions that leds to ridiculous funny moments (whenever the girls, from all social classes and ages see when his pants drop there's this dumb shocking noise or the plim plim from Globo that are irresistible to not laugh). And as usual with some of those stories, there's always the funny gay guy who never has the chance to interact with the male star - but the gay waiter delivers some of the best lines, and the shock he gets with Lírio is priceless.
It's a funny movie, the sex-appeal works but it alienates viewers because everytime when the movie shows the girls we get to see them fully in the nude while the huge secret from the film (what makes the title and Lírio being such an appealing man) isn't shown at all. So, there's no justice, no balance to the movie. This is the kind of movie where a scene requiring the lead man (or a stunt guy) showing his material should be mandatory - though I know male audiences are its majority of viewers because they all want to see Consuelo Leandro, Esmeralda Barros, Maria Luíza Castelli and other women showing their attributes rather than Nuno, since that kind of movie is a product of the decade; but as for the opposite side it can be a completely letdown. Had it been presented like "Boogie Nights" final sequence than we would understand all the characters shock and amazement with how massive the Man from Itu is.
As seen just as a comedy that goes a little beyond things I was absolutely delighted with it, thought it was hilarious in nearly all of its scenes; it has a nice past; it never got to become a violent and over-exploitative mess like many pornochanchada of the kind. It flirts with the absurd and the mudane with such fine balance that it's actually surprising it can be THAT good. For the objection I made one can argue that pornography exists for that...however, it's not funny or well-acted as this is. Outside of the scenes of sexual nature, "O Homem de Itu" has a lot of qualities that porn can't cover - such as the scenes with Lírio lost in São Paulo or getting arrested by the police or even the lavish rich ladies party to present the host's new aquisition...which is him (!). Two enthusiastic thumbs up to this movie and I hope to see it again soon, it's super funny. 9/10
