Per Blom's Silver Mouth (Sølvmunn) has been a long "lost" Norwegia movie which I get to see thanks to the new extensive series of Norwegian classic released on Blu-Ray. This has since it cinema premiere December 1st 1981, and it's run in the theaters not been relased on VHS or DVD. So finally it's released remastered on Blu-Ray Disc.
I don't know the reason for this, but Per Blom's second last film before his very critically acclaimed "Ice Castle" six years later, has been lost to a lot of viewers - until now. Usually Blom filmed his own scropts, but this is written by Martin Aspaug, which later came to be a great film maker of his own (debuted with a "A Handful of Time" in 1989.)
Silver Mouth was released in a year with interesting Norwegian film about children. (Løperjenten by Vibeke Løkkeberg, Liten ida by Laila Mikkelsen and Zeppelin by Lasse Glom makes for the others.) the script won a competition.
Nine year old Fredrik which has a very vivid imagination, is called "Siver Mouth" due to his braces. He lives alone with is father in Oslo, and his mother attends art school in Bergen may hours away. But when the father gets a new girl friend, Fredrik world is turned upside down. Fredrik doesn't want anyone to steal his dad's heart.
Even if this script won a competition for scripts for children's movies, I would not consider this as a movie for children. It approaches adults dealing with children, parents.
Fredrik is played by Tobias Asphaug in a wonderful role. He's a complete charmer, and even playing against a pro like the father Richard Andersen, played by Jon Skolmen, he shines. Skolmen plays his role as a father with equal charm. His light comic talent goes right through to the heart of the viewer. Also the mother, played by Kine Hellebust is great.
Is a movie about children, this is as good as they get. Music is by a jazz group, Lille Frøen Saksofonkvintett, and is not my cup of tea, but it functions in a way.
Well acted and not dull for a second, due to the charm of little Tobias.
This movie is made available in 2023 when it was released on interregional Blu-Ray Disk by Norwegian Film Classics as the 34th release in a new series with classics, NFK0034, with subtitles in English, and is supposed to be held in stock for film lovers.
