I'm not sure if this movie qualifies as ladies' night or date night, but it's definitely steamy. Since it has the added element of not knowing who to trust, if you're just starting out dating someone new, you might just want to rent this with your girlfriends. It definitely has the feel of the 1990s, so parts of it are a little dated and predictable, but it's also entertaining and keeps you interested - and not just to see more steam.
After Fatal Attraction - and let's face it, before then as well - stories about a bad girl going rogue were pretty popular. The movie starts out as Michael York comes home from a day at the office. He's held up just outside the garage by a masked gunman who orders him to take off his pants; turns out it's Jennifer O'Neill who wants a quick liaison before dinner. That's one dedicated wife trying to spice things up, isn't it? Only. . . Jennifer isn't his wife. She's the wife of friend, neighbor, and business partner of Michael. Obviously, he wants discretion, but when he gets his head turned by a new girl, Elizabeth Gracen, are two girlfriends too many to juggle without his wife finding out?
I've seen a lot of Michael York movies to honor his time as Star of the Week, and Discretion Assured is one of the only movies where I've seen him put in some serious dramatic acting. Usually he wasn't cast in those kinds of roles, sticking to either "background" characters like in Cabaret or swashbuckling movies like The Three Musketeers. If you're a big fan of his, obviously you're not going to want to miss this movie. You can also see his acting chops in The Island of Dr. Moreau and Logan's Run. If you're not a fan of his, you can still consider a viewing as it might change your mind in this different, far sexier role.
DLM Warning: If you suffer from vertigo or dizzy spells, like my mom does, this movie might not be your friend. When Michael goes to the nightclub with Elizabeth, the camera blurs and tilts and that will make you sick. In other words, "Don't Look, Mom!"
Kiddy Warning: Obviously, you have control over your own children. However, due to nudity and graphic sex scenes, I wouldn't let my kids watch it.
