It's around the Midsummer.Tuija Halonen and Siiri Angerkoski play Eliisa and Amanda, two women who have canteen on a farm where the hungry log floaters can go have a bite. Then there arrive two vagabonds. The other is young Olavi (Heikki Heino) and the older one is a peddler called Verneri.Olavi falls in love with Eliisa and Verneri has been in love with Amanda and still loves her.William Markus' Taikayö (1954) has been made of a waltz.Reino Helismaa wrote it and T.J.Särkkä was the producer.Olavi Kärki is responsible for the music.Tuija Halonen is a perfect Maiden of Finland with her braided blonde hair and beautiful smile. With Heikki Heino they make a perfect leading couple.Aku Korhonen was the funny man of Finnish cinema and is terrific in this movie.Pentti Siimes portrays greatly Olavi's step brother.I've always liked Mr. Siimes in both comedic and dramatic roles.Uljas Kandolin makes a great villain of the movie.Siiri Angerkoski does brilliant job as Amanda. Her perhaps best known role is Justiina in Pekka Puupää movies. There are two other actors known from those movies. There's Armas Jokio playing a log floater. Then there's Masa Niemi as a circus clown. Now we know he was a sad clown who committed suicide in 1960.This is a movie of wonderful story and beautiful Finnish sceneries. It's really nice to watch Olavi and Verneri walking and singing Säkkijärven polkka with hay poles seen in the background.Or Olavi drawing a heart on a birch. He also sings the song Koivu ja sydän, where the boy draws a heart on a birch. This is a movie of warm feelings and eternal sunshine.
