Pecking Holes in Poles

When I first saw the date this short was released, I immediately prepared myself for a horrible cartoon. But to my amazement, this short is actually tolerable, not exactly good but decent. Ty e premise itself, while done before, is much less used than other scenarios woody has been in. Because of this, it's a real breath of fresh air. Animation here if fine, with Volus Jones's work being oddly better than most other shorts he worked on during this time. The poll worker, while not exactly smart, has his moments, and his dumbness sort of works in his favor. Woody here has more energy and is far smarter and more devious Han in previous shorts, making this a much more enjoyable experience. Also, the song is pretty catchy, I won't lie about that. Also, the ending is perfect, not the best and not the worst, but it works surprisingly well on the context of the cartoon. Overall, an amazingly fine effort from the early 70's. See Paul J.
