Cândido Portinari, o Pintor de Brodósqui

An interesting and revealing tribute to painter Cândido Portinari, directed by veteran filmmaker João Batista de Andrade ("Liberdade de Imprensa", "Céu Aberto"). It shows us, very briefly, the art composed by Portinari with his many paintings dedicated to simple, hard workers and peasants, a great influence to the rural environment from where he came from, in the town of Brodósqui, and his works are presented as well along with poems written by him and the whole film is narrated by actors Cláudio Mamberti and José de Abreu. There are a couple of archive images as well, an interview with a local from the coutry town and there's also Portinari's funeral as well (I might wrong about that since the film doesn't make much clear except for the fact we follow a group of young people carrying a coffin in the town). Whatever the case, it's a very commendable short documentary that can introduce a genius painter as Portinari to future audiences. 8/10.
