I saw this short 55 years ago. NFB shorts used to get played before features with shorter running times in Canada. I saw this at the Dunbar theatre in Vancouver. To this day I still remember the song, "He is a Devil, he knows the Devil, he is a Devil ... yes he is". The water devil uses a divining stick to find underground water. It shows how a relatively ordinary stick can be used by the diviner to find water in a similar fashion to a metal detector. It was a well made short.
In the 1970's I was a booker at Astral Films that handled the NFB shorts. I programmed this short in many locations with appropriate films.
Haven't seen it since!
