Ant and Dec took a break from hosting SMTV to do this show. I guess they wanted to do something different or maybe try to try their luck with a Saturday evening show, kind of like Noel's House Party or The Generation Game.
This was pre-Saturday Night Takeaway, almost like SNT without the quiz.
However, some elements from SMTV were used in this show, such as sketches that would have the same SMTV style and Challenge Ant.
I remember "Beers", a spoof on "Cheers". Since SMTV did "Chums", a parody..... well, not exactly on "Friends". And despite spoofing the title and opening sequence, it wasn't that much of a parody on the sitcom.
Either way, "Beers" had some good story lines. The one about the python and the one about Dec being a chef.
"Challenge Ant" was the same as it was on SMTV, but they had 60 year olds instead of kids. One contestant had a woman who lost and she wouldn't get off the stage. She called Ant "You rotten sod!" and she wouldn't leave the stage. I though she was going to pull out a machine and cause anarchy!
But my favourite was Formula 6 and 1/2 which involved 4 kids dressed in F1 jumpsuits and riding peddle go-karts. Callers would put a bet on each kid and whoever wins the race, the caller gets the prize.
And finally there was "Donnelly" a spoof on "Parkinson", where Dec acts like a prima donna and Ant does everything he can to ruin his moment to shine.
A hugely enjoyable show and a real shame it was a bomb. But then, had it not bombed, SNT would not exist.
